Job Description

A California-based law firm is seeking an experienced employment litigator to join its employment practice as a Senior Associate. This role involves handling a broad range of employer-side employment matters, including pre-litigation disputes, litigation, agency hearings, and audit investigations. The associate will work with the support of an experienced paralegal and alongside a team of seasoned attorneys.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead counsel on defense-side employment litigation matters, including individual claims, class actions, and PAGA cases
  • Draft and argue pleadings, motions, and briefs, and appear at court hearings, mediations, and depositions as required
  • Evaluate and negotiate resolution of pre-litigation demand letters
  • Represent employer-side clients in Labor Commissioner hearings
  • Assist clients with Department of Labor and other agency audit investigations
  • Advise clients on wage and hour compliance and issues involving discrimination, harassment, and retaliation
  • Partner with clients to address employment-related concerns and implement best practices
  • Draft and review employee handbooks, workplace policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with California employment law
  • Conduct in-depth legal research on complex and evolving employment law issues
  • Stay current on developments in employment law and relevant industry trends

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active membership with the State Bar of California; federal admission preferred but not required
  • Minimum of five years of experience practicing employment litigation
  • Experience handling class action and PAGA matters
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment
  • Commitment to high standards of client service and ethical legal practice
